MaptiveIQ - How to Use the Routing / Directions Tool
Route Optimization / Directions Tool Tutorial:
Get a single set of directions to a location or up to 73 different locations on your map using the Routing/Directions tool. Multiple sets of directions on a single map are now supported. Just follow the steps below:
Step 1: Locate the marker you would like directions for and click on it to view the map marker information panel on the right-hand side.
Step 2: Click on the tools icon for the location marker selected.
Step 3: Select Add to Route.
Step 4: Once the selected marker is added to the Route, the Routing/Directions tool panel will open on the left-hand side with your selected marker as the starting point or location 'one.'
Step 5: Add the second marker/location to the Route using the steps 1 to 3 above.
Step 6: If you want to see directions or optimize routes for multiple locations, click on Add Additional Location, and using the steps earlier, you can keep adding new markers/locations for Routing.
Alternatively, you can use steps 1 to 3 to add additional locations to the route, and they will be added to the location list on this tool panel.
Optional Step 7: You can choose a different color for the route directions or just use the default color.
Step 8: Click 'Get Directions' and wait for the route to appear.
Step 9: You can also choose to optimize your route. Do so by clicking 'Optimize Route.' This will give you the most efficient route between multiple locations. 'Optimize Route' will keep the first and last locations the same. This allows you to start and stop from your office, home, or to begin at one side of the map and end at the other.
Below is the route for directions between two selected locations. You can view more details regarding that route below the Routing/Directions tool panel.
Below is the route for directions between multiple selected locations. You can view more details regarding that route below the Routing/Directions tool panel.
Below is the Optimized Route between multiple selected locations. You can view more details regarding that optimized route below the Routing/Directions tool panel.
To view both Directions and Optimized Route for the selected locations at the same time,
first click on 'Get Directions' to get the route (blue in below example) for your locations, and then
click on 'Optimize Route.' You will get a dialogue box with two options regarding the route display:
Click on 'Add another directions instance' to generate the optimized route (yellow in below example) for your locations in the same map view.
You can view more details regarding the optimized route below the Routing/Directions tool panel using the drop-down option.
Note: You can also drag and drop the starting point, the ending point, and the sequence for the route, using the stacked "=" symbols:
Adding Multiple Locations Using the Lasso Tool
You can also add multiple locations for Routing/Directions using the Lasso tool.
Step 1: Click on the Lasso & Fill Locations on the left-hand panel of the Routing / Directions Tool.
This will activate the Lasso Tool icon on the right-hand side of the Map. You'll notice that it will be highlighted in blue. This means you can begin drawing your lasso.
Step 2: To begin, click near a location on your map, then move your cursor to another area on your map and click again. Your lasso will begin to appear. Continue clicking your cursor until you have closed your selection by clicking back on your initial lasso point.
Step 3: When you have successfully enclosed your lasso, all the Locations that have been lassoed will appear on the left-hand panel of the Routing / Directions Tool.
Step 4: Drag and drop the locations to rearrange the sequence if you want, then click on "Get Directions" and/or "Optimize Route" for your lassoed locations.
Creating Multiple Sets of Routes/Directions on a Single Map
You can create and view multiple sets of directions on a single map. Simply follow the steps below:
Step 1: Once your first set of directions is on your map, click 'Clear Form' on the top-left side of the Routing/Directions Tool panel.
Step 2: Choose the next set of markers you want to create a route with. Once selected, you will get a dialogue box with two options regarding the route display:
Step 3: Click on 'Add another directions instance' to generate the second set of directions for your locations in the same map view.
Step 4: Zoom out and adjust your Map view to see both sets of routes/directions on a simple Map.
You can add as many routes as you need!
To edit the Route color and name, click on the 'Settings' icon next to the route you want to make edits, then select 'Edit Route.'
Make the edits as needed and click 'Save' to generate the changes on the Map.
