How to Use the Filter Tool
Filter Tool Tutorial:
The Filter Tool allows you to segment your data and view it at multiple levels of granularity on a single map. It makes it easy to see relationships between data points while paring down heavy spreadsheet data to only what you want to see. To use the Filter Tool, follow the steps outlined below:
Step 1: Open Map Tools.
Step 2: Open the Filter Tool.

Step 3: If this is the first time you've used the filter on this map, click on Create Filters.

If you've filtered on your map previously, or you are using the Grouping Tool already, you will click the gear.

After clicking, you'll see the following menu, showing all the column headers in your data. You can then choose which data columns to filter and how.

Step 4: Clicking on the pull down next to the column you want to be able to filter.

As you can see, there are five types of filters you can create:
- Group - for columns with group data, i.e. categories
- Text - allows you to simply 'search' in a specific column of data only, i.e. store number
- Number - offers a slider bar with the low being your lowest number found in that column and the high being the highest. This is only for numeric data.
- Attribute - Attributes can recognize semi-colons in your data. These columns can list multiple things in the same cell separated by semi-colons. The attribute filter will separate those things into individual groups.
- Date - Allows you to filter by date range showing the earliest date in your date column and the latest date in your date column.
Once you choose a filter option for a column the check box to the right check. To turn off a filter, uncheck the box.
