MaptiveIQ - How to convert Boundaries into Territories
This article will show you how to convert territories you have created in the boundary tool into territories with their own shape. If you don't have territories in the boundary tool already go to How To Create a Geographic Boundary Map to learn how to create them or go to How to Draw Your Territories if you want to create them directly in the Territory tool. If you want to understand why you might convert to territories click here
Step 1: Go to the boundary tool by clicking on "Map Tools" then click "Geographic Boundary"
Step 2: Find a boundary set that has at least one fill group and click the 3 dots
Step 3: Click "Convert Groups to Territories"

Step 4: Name your territory Group, and click "Convert"

Step 5: Maptive will remove the Boundary Fill you were working with and replace it with the territories it created. Notice how the Territory for Will Cloze is now one polygon instead of being 3 colored in states

Benefits of converting to a Territory
- Remove clutter from the map - If you don't need to see the individual boundary lines you can convert them to just see the outside border.
- Add the same territories to other maps - Once you have a territory group you can add those territories to other maps with just a couple clicks without having to worry about the new maps data changing your boundaries
- Create territories using more types of boundaries - In the boundary tool you can only create territories with the boundary set you are currently using. If layering is quite what you need, turning the boundaries into territories will allow you to use those territories on any map, regardless of the data tied to the map.
- Disconnect territories from your data - Most of the time you are using your data to color your boundaries. However if you want to lock your territories in place you would need to convert them otherwise updating your data could also change your territories
